Top 11 Self Help Tips That Will Help You Get To Where You Want To Be

self help tips

The first of the self help tips I want to share with you is: Allow Time
There is a time for everything, even the bible says that, there is a time to sow and a time to reap.

If you have been sowing, then time is one of the things that separates you from your harvest, if you have been putting in the work then it's only, a matter of time before you succeed. You don't plant today and get a harvest tomorrow.

Too often people get impatient, they do all the hard work but don't give themselves enough time to see the results of that work, they quit before their seed has had time to grow because of lack of patience.

If you know you are doing all the right things, then don't get discouraged, remember that time might be the only thing that separates you from where you are to where you'd like to be. Have faith, don't lose hope, your hard work will be rewarded IN TIME!

The second of the self help tips is: seek knowledge

The bible says that wisdom is the principal thing and wisdom is often defined as the application of knowledge, but you can only apply the knowledge you have, it is impossible to apply knowledge you don't have and that's why you must seek knowledge.

The difference between where you are and where you'd like to be is knowledge, those who have achieved what you'd like to achieve know something you don't know. Discover what they know and begin to apply it and before long you'll get the same results.

Seek knowledge, go to seminars, read books, read blogs, take courses, get the qualification, get the audio programs etc it's the truth you know and apply, the knowledge you have and apply that will set you free and get you to where you want to be.

The third of the Self help tips is: Practice

The road to perfection requires practice, to become excellent at something you must devote yourself to practice.

Practising gives birth to skilfulness. The difference between competence and incompetence is practice.

Every master was once a student who devoted themselves to practice. Everything you learn will be useless to you if you don't practice it. The difference between where you are and where you want to be is practice.

The fourth of the self help tips is: make allowances for failures and mistakes

In the previous point, I talked about the importance of practice, practice is important because it helps you to fix all your mistakes and improve on the areas where you fail.

To succeed you must ultimately fail and make mistakes. Nobody starts at perfection or competence, we all start off incompetent and it is by persevering through failures and mistakes that we reach competence.

Failure doesn't mean you aren't any good, failures and mistakes are just a sign that you are growing, give yourself some credit, only those who try can fail, it is only those who have never tried anything that have never failed at anything.

Remember when you were learning to walk? You failed and made mistakes until you became good at it.

Remember when you were learning to read and write? You failed and made mistakes until you became good at it.

Remember when you were learning to ride a bike? Okay you get the message. It takes persevering through failures and mistakes to reach competence and success - that's the formula, the pathway.

The next time you fail or make a mistake, celebrate! You are growing. There is nothing I am good at today that I didn't first fail at and make mistakes.

Before I created a successful website I had websites that failed.
Before I could play the drum kit at a level of competence I made many mistakes.
Before I could give a good hair cut, I had several, failed attempts.
Before I found the love of my life and married her, I suffered a few failed relationships.
What me to carry on...

If you can think back to everything you are successful at today, you will see that failure and mistakes preceded them, that should give you hope for whatever is failing now!

The fifth of the self help tips is: remember God has a set time for everything

I believe that God has a set season and time for the things that we desire to have happen in our lives.

The difference between where you are now and where you want to be can often be Gods set time. There is a time God has set to bring about the manifestation of the things that you desire.

If you are doing all the right things and the manifestation of what you desire hasn't yet happened then it might just be that the time and season for you to acquire it hasn't yet come.

When Gods set time comes, things will just start to shift in your favour and you won't be able to explain why.

It's how King David and Joseph ended up in the palace. God lined things up to bring about their success, but until that set time came, all they had known was setback, failure, rejection etc. when Gods set time came, everything literally changed for them overnight. The day is coming when all your problems will end overnight, where everything will just click and results will start to flow, be patient for Gods set time.

The sixth of the self help tips is: connect with and surround yourself with the right people.

The difference between where you are right now and where you want to be are the people you surround yourself with.

The people you have around you will determine the opportunities you get exposed to.
The people you surround yourself with will determine who see' you.

Surround yourself with people who have achieved what you desire to achieve, who you hang around with will determine what you become. If you surround yourself with negative people, who have no vision, who are pessimistic about everything, who laugh at you and don't believe in your dreams then you'll probably never get to where you want to be in life because their pessimism and negativity will hold you back.

Surround yourself with achievers, people that stretch you, people that inspire you, before you know it you would have formed a circle of people around you who will have the knowledge and resources to help you get to where you want to be.

If you want to be a business person surround yourself with successful business people.
If you want to be a musician, surround yourself with successful musicians.
If you want to be a teacher, surround yourself with teachers.
The people you surround yourself with will often determine who and what you become.

The seventh of the self help tips is : good mentorship

The difference between where you are and where you want to be is good mentorship.

Your mentor is your teacher, someone who has done what you want to do who can show you how to do it.

On my journey to creating a successful website I had to put myself under the mentorship of people who had built successful websites, people like Ken Evoy of sitesell.com and Lisa Irby of 2createawebsite.com

I read and still read everything they have to say about building a successful website, even though I have not personally met them, they mentor me through their articles, books, videos etc

Because of their mentorship, I was able to build successful websites that get lots of visitors everyday and make money. I was able to go from where I was (knowing nothing about building a successful website) to where I wanted to be (running my own successful online business) that's the power of mentorship.

The eighth of the self help tips is: Get the money

Quite often what is keeping people from getting to where they want to be is money, most people just give up when they don't have the money, but not having money is never an excuse, there is always a way to get the money if you want your dream badly enough.

When I wanted to do my diploma in popular music and I had no money for my fees, I found a way to get it

When I wanted to get my barbering equipment to learn barbering I had no money, but I figured out a way to get it.

You can get people to sponsor you, you can get interest free credit cards, there is always a way to get the money, do some research and you will find a way, speak to people and get some advice on financing and getting funding, don't let it hold you back.

The ninth of the self help tips is: Be willing to take risks.

This point follows on nicely from the previous one, many times the reason people don't get the money is because they are afraid to take risks.

The risk of getting rejected by the bank for the loan
The risk of not being able to pay back the loan or credit card
The risk of falling back on the mortgage etc

The difference between where you are and where you want to be is your willingness to take risks.

You have to be willing to take risks. Many people are stuck in careers they hate because they are afraid to take the risk to try something different.

Many never Attempt that business they've always dreamt of having because they are scared to take risks.

If you are not willing to takes risks, then you are not willing to succeed, there is an element of risk to everything in life and only those who dare to take the risks will reap the rewards.

Nothing is fool proof or risk free, there is always a chance of failure. No investment is guaranteed, no business is guaranteed, nothing in life is guaranteed, there is always a chance of failure but if you are willing to take that risk then you can reap great rewards in return.

At the root of the unwillingness to take risks is fear. You have to feel the fear and do it anyway, you have have to persevere through the fear because what you want is on the other side of your fear, and you must go through the fear to get there.

Great success comes by taking great risks.

The tenth of the self help tips is: Be diligent

Being diligent speaks of hard work, consistency, and persistence. Lack of diligence will cost you and stop you from reaping the fruits of hard work and consistency.

Most good things in life don't come easy, all too often people quit on the verge of a breakthrough. There is no such thing as instant success, you have to be diligent, you have to be persistent, and keep working on what it is you want to achieve even when it seems like nothing is happening, even when results don't seem to be coming.

Stay diligent, keep giving it what it takes, don't look back, don't get slack or lazy, stay passionate and stay motivated and you will succeed.

The last but not the least of the self help tips is: Ask for what you want.

It's shocking how difficult we find it to ask for what we want, sometimes the answer to what we want is just a question away, all we need to do is ask someone, but we find it difficult to ask.

If you don't ask, you wont get, people can't read your mind, they don't know what you want, you have to ask for it.

Asking doesn't make you weak, if anything the inability to ask is evidence of pride, being too proud to ask for help will keep you struggling where you are.

Ask and you will receive, the difference between where you are and where you want to be is asking, even God needs you to ask. "ask and it shall be given to you"

Ask for that pay rise
Ask for that promotion
Ask your spouse how you can better meet their needs
Ask for help
Ask for information
Ask for advice
Ask for that Job
Ask, ask ask, till you get, get, get

Sometimes just asking can save you money, what you thought you would have to save up for might just be given to you by asking. If you don't have the money or resources etc why not ask someone who does, they might just give it to you. You loose nothing by asking, the worst that can happen is that they say no - then ask again or ask someone else!
