7 Great Self Improvement Ideas for Greater success, Maximising your Potential and Making the Most of your Life

1. The first of my self improvement ideas is to Live On Purpose - I personally believe that we are all here on earth for a reason, our existence isn't coincidental or accidental, I believe we are all purposeful creatures of a purposeful God who designed and created us and put us here for a reason.

Self improvement for me is a by-product of knowing your purpose in life, your reason for existence and living that purpose, I honestly believe that when you know why you are here and you are constantly active in making sure that your purpose in life as an individual is achieved, you will naturally improve yourself as a result.

If you are working towards fulfilling your life's purpose, you will definitely improve yourself as a result. There is no way you you can achieve your life's purpose without becoming a better and more improved person on the journey.

It was through Dr Myles Munroe that I was introduced to this idea and concept of purpose and it has since become one of the most valuable self improvement ideas that I always share with people.

2. The second of my self improvement ideas is to Seek to be Financially Free and look for ways to Make Extra Money. Money isn't the end all and be all, and money can't buy you happiness, but having money does make life easier and less stressful.

If you have ever been in a position where you were completely broke and in debt and didn't know how you were going to pay your bills, then you will know the importance of having money.

If we are all honest, then we can agree that money certainly gives you a better quality of life, and money will help to improve your life in a very significant way. So in the journey to self improvement money plays a very crucial role.

Seek financial intelligence and literacy, learn about investments, find out about things you can do to supplement your income and reduce debts.

Striving for financial freedom and looking for ways to make extra money is definitely one of the self improvement ideas you can't afford to ignore.

3. Learn something new everyday - Someone once said to me, if you are not learning something new everyday, you are not growing.

Its easy in life to become complacent and relaxed. What tends to happen to us is that we reach a certain level of competence and then we become relaxed and stop striving to improve.

To improve you must constantly be learning and adding to what you know, no matter how much you know there is still more to learn, no matter how much you've done, there is still more you can do.

Life is constantly changing, for example in the area of computer technology, things are constantly changing, if all you knew about technology was what you learnt in the 90's then you would struggle to use computers today because you haven't updated yourself with new information, you havent moved with the times because you stopped learning. The same applies to every area of life, the only way to stay relevant and not get left behind is to be an ongoing student, always learning, always staying informed.

Whatever your area of expertise is, make a commitment to learn something new about your field that you didn't know before, make a commitment to learn a new skill that will help you to enhance your work, constantly be on the lookout for something new you can learn to make you better in your field, what courses you can take, what software you can learn, etc

Learning something new everyday is one of the self improvement ideas that will guarantee that you remain relevant and indispensable no matter what field you are in.

4. Decide what you want from life and go for it. Ultimately when you think of your ideal life, you are thinking of the kind of person you want to be, the kind of person you would become once you've made all the self improvements.

Have you decided who that person is? Have you defined what you want to have in order to become that person.

What kind of career do you want?
What kind of relationships do you want?
How much money do you want?
What kind of spiritual life do you want?
What kind of health do you want?

When you decide and define what you want from life and begin to work towards obtaining those things, you will inevitably improve yourself.

5. Surround yourself with positive people, the people you associate with will influence you, the people you associate with will determine what you are exposed to.

The kind of positive people you should surround yourself with:

Surround yourself with achievers, people whose achievement you admire, people whose achievement inspire you to stretch and reach further, people whose achievement make you uncomfortable with being average, people whose achievement motivate you to want to succeed.

Surround yourself with encouragers, people that will encourage you and speak positive words into your life about your vision and goals.

Surround yourself with those who see the best in you, those who see talent and qualities in you that you might not see in yourself

Surround yourself with people that will be honest with you, who will be honest enough to tell you the truth when you are slacking

Surround yourself with people who see what you can do better, it's great to have people around us who esteem us and make us feel good, but it is even better to have people around you who can point out areas of weakness, those are the ones who see the areas that need improvement. You cannot achieve self improvement if you don't know what needs to be improved.

6. Have a mentor - one of the best things you can do to improve yourself is to have a mentor. Whatever you want to achieve in life, the chances are that someone has already achieved it, by placing yourself under their mentorship they can teach you how to achieve your goals based on their experience from having done it.

Find someone who has already done what you want to do and copy the things that helped them to succeed - that's what mentoring is all about.

The Great things about having a mentor is that you can save yourself from making a lot of unnecessary mistakes, they've already made the mistakes for you, you can learn from their successes and failures and the chances are you will learn within a short period of time what possibly took them years to learn, as a result you'll probably succeed a lot quicker than they did too.

The great thing about having a mentor is that you don't have to guess how to do it right, you can watch how they do it, they can correct you when you are getting it wrong, they guide and coach you to success with minimal failure.

No man is an island, don't try and go at it alone, don't try and reinvent the wheel or figure everything out by yourself. Find a good mentor and take on board their advice.

One of the easiest ways to be mentored by someone you admire is to simply read their books, listen to their audio program's, go to their events and seminars etc, this is particularly helpful if you are unable to sit with them in person.

7. Learn a new skill - learning keeps you alive, it keeps your brain active, it makes you feel energised. There is tremendous pleasure and confidence that's comes from knowing that you couldn't do something before but now you can.

For example I recently I decided to pick up barbering, it's amazing that just a few months ago I couldn't even hold a clipper properly, now I can give a very decent hair cut. It gives me a sense of pride and achievement, it's another skill I can add to my capabilities. That's the power of learning something new, it makes you feel good and it becomes another thing you are capable of doing, it's a great way to improve yourself.

Some ideas on things you can learn to improve yourself:

A new language
A musical instrument
How to build a website
How to bake or cook
A new sport

I would also recommend learning something that you can use to make some extra income or even turn into a full time salary, preferably, make it something you know you would enjoy learning and doing. That's way I choose barbering, it was something that I had always wanted to learn, I enjoy working with my hands and I can also make money with it. That's what makes learning a new skill one if the best self improvement ideas.

Why not try out some of these self improvement ideas and see what impact they will have on your life. These are ideas that I have implemented and still use on a daily basis and they work for me and I'm sure these self improvement ideas will also help you to reach your goals and become the kind of person you want to be.
